Hello and welcome to ColliePoint.com!
My name is Austin, and I created this site to share everything I have learned over the many wonderful years of owning a border collie mix.
My story
Ever since I was a little kid, dogs have been a huge part of my life. From the time I was born until the time I left the house after college, my family always had dogs. Dogs are great because they are like another member of the family. They are there for every happy moment in your life, as well as every hardship. They are there at the door when you get home and are there to say goodbye every time you leave. They are there for you no matter what.
It wasn’t until a year after college that I discovered what owning my own dog was like, in particular, a border collie. Owning your own dog is a lot different than having a dog that the entire family takes care of. You are solely responsible for every bathroom break, every meal, every vaccine, and every accident. And owning your own border collie is no joke.
I remember the first time I saw Moby (My border collie mix). My sister actually found him online and he was located at the local animal shelter near my house. I had been looking for a dog companion for a while at that point and I knew that a shelter dog was my only option. See, I was raised with the mindset that there is no better way to go than getting your dog from the animal shelter. I have no problem with breeders, but why feel the need to keep breeding dogs when there are thousands of dogs that get put down every day at shelters?
Anyways, the day my sister and I arrived at the shelter, guess who the loudest dog was? Moby. You could hear him from a mile away. We both at each other with that look like “Is that the cute, innocent-looking dog we found online?” And of course, it was. He was clearly ready to get out of there, and within a week, I was the proud owner of a new border collie.
Why I want to help you
It’s now been almost 5 years since that day I first drove Moby home from the animal shelter, and boy has it been an event-filled 5 years.
See, border collies are a little different from most breeds. They require special attention, special training, and special love. They aren’t like many dogs who can just go into a dog park and be the happy-go-lucky dog that most are. They aren’t like most dogs who can walk on a leash around the block without stopping to bark at every moving object that goes by. They aren’t like most dogs who can keep their mouths shut most of the time, without feeling the need to treat your hand like another toy.
Border collies are border collies and are a special breed of dog. Over the past five years, I have learned a ton about what it takes to give your border collie everything they need, while still teaching them the behaviors you expect in return. I created this site because I want to help share with you everything I have learned about border collies.
I want to help you become the best parent you can be to your border collie, and give them the best life they could ever imagine.
The goal of this website
Border collies are special dogs that require special care in order to live the best lives they can live. For new owners who have never had a dog before or ones that have had dogs in the past, but have never had a border collie, they can be a handful. Trust me, I know.
The goal of this site is to help you from day one learn everything you need to know about owning a border collie. This website will hopefully help you go from beginner to advance when it comes to training and providing for your border collie.
Whether you are a new owner or one who is having difficulties with a border collie that you have owned for a while now, this site is for you.
All the content on ColliePoint.com will be written by me, based on my experience and the experience of other collie owners that help contribute their knowledge.
If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below, or send me an email at austin@colliepoint.com and I will be more than happy to help you out!
All the best,
Austin
